encouraging chat

Yesterday I chatted with my friend about this and that until our conversation turned to this:
Me: I'm reading this book about a man who confesses to all the terribel things he, his company and the country have done in order to create/maintain/widen the gap between rich and poor, master and slave.
Friend: listening. no response.
Me: AHH!
Me: I'm not quite at the end but I want to know Disney played a part in it with a happily ever after.
Friend: offers some lovely metaphors about the world in its systemic turmoil.

Me and Friend: found common ground by both siting an idea along the lines of something Mother Teresa once said, If you can't help 1000, at least help one.
Friend: Sarah, thanks for giving a damn.
Me: Ditto to you friend.

In two days time I leave for Africa with Jami to visit friends, play with kids, build, discover and help. Not because we're the only hope but because whether it's Spokane or Kampala, we want to be a part of people's lives, to serve and grow together, to really give a damn.
